As the hostess of the mom-to-be's baby shower, you want the occasion to be special and classy. And yet, you just can't afford a fancy affair involving caterers, expensive door prizes, or a designer cake. Just relax. There are so many free and cheap things out there that will make the baby shower a success and won't break your bank.



Free Baby Shower Invitations
You cannot go wrong with Evite. Evite has super-cute baby shower themed invitations that you can send to all the guests by email. There is absolutely no need in this day and age to spend money on invitations and postage stamps. Simply include all the information on the Evite, including where the new mom is registered for baby items.
Cheap Baby Shower Decorations
Flowers are the classiest and cheapest decorations. Forget about crepe paper and balloons. Simply visit a farmer's market and get several bouquets of flowers to place strategically around the house. Balloons are also a cheap way to decorate. Buy a pack of several and (here's where the classy part sets in) simply arrange them in huge bowls and vases. Don't tape them to the wall (this is tacky). Instead, create balloon centerpieces by gluing or taping them inside of baskets you can place around the house.
Cheap Baby Shower Food
This is undoubtedly the most expensive part of the baby shower planning, but you can't call for a potluck. What you can do, however, is buy the cheapest snacks available. Your baby shower will most likely be during the day, so you can save a lot of money by offering platters of finger foods. Vegetable platters and fruit platters are super cheap if you do them yourself. Cheese and crackers are also a good bet. Another idea is to buy a huge hoagie sandwich from a super mart and cut it up yourself before the party. These big sandwiches can often feed 20 or more.
The Baby Shower Cake
Unfortunately, there's no way of getting around this: You're going to have to make the cake yourself. Make a three layer round cake and place a rubber ducky on top and you're good to go.
Free Baby Shower Games
There are a ton of sites on the internet that offer free baby shower games you can download. Baby bingo, fill in the blank nursery rhymes and crossword puzzles are good baby shower party games.
Cheap Baby Shower Favors
If you have baby shower games, you need favors. Here's the best, cheapest favor: candles. You can find really cute and classy candles at your local dollar store. Wrap them in cellophane with a pretty ribbon and you have yourself a pretty, classy, cheap baby shower game prize.
